The Spinal Cord
This long bone structure is essential, not just for posture and support, but also for efficient function of the neural pathways. It is closely tied to the central nervous system (including the brain and its direct connections via the spine) and is also an anchoring point for the peripheral nervous system, which extends to the extremeties in a series of connected neurons, represented as thin fibers (see below image). The loss of this essential bone will thus cause massive damage in the communications between the brain and the rest of the body.
