Brain Structure

Into many different sections, which are listed below. Further, the brain is divided hemispherically, into the right and left side of the brain. The right side controls the left of the body, and vice-versa. They are linked by a part of the brain called the corpus collasum. Each division is important because each section controls a different part of the brain function. The brain is normally gray in color and wrinkled (providing more surface area than if it were smooth) and is actually suspended in a cranial fluid, which protects it (though it can slide around and take damage under enough force).

Frontal- the "newest" part of the brain. It is responsible for language, cognition, and rational thought. It is not found in animals.

Parietal- controls balance and movement. A blow to this part of the head may cause intense dizziness.

Occipital- controls sight. It is so far from the eyes in order to protect it from damage in the front of the head.

Temporal- next to the ear, this lobe recieves and processes sound waves that are then recognized by the rational and memory centers of the brain.

Brain stem- connects the brain to the spinal cord, and thus, to the entire body. Provides the motion and senses to the face.

Cerebellum- to the right of the brain stem, plays a vital role in learning and motor movement in humans. It also funtions as an extension of rational thought and equilibrium. It controls all the automatic functions of life, and is the most ancient and rudimentary part of the brain.
